Workplace catering specialists, Bennett Hay, recently announced the launch of ‘Growing for Good’, their new company wide ESG strategy.
Growing for Good has been developed in partnership with Sarah Duncan, a noted sustainability consultant in the hospitality sector. It draws on the extensive work the team had already done in securing reductions in carbon emissions, improving workplace wellbeing, and reducing use of energy resources.
Their new ESG strategy goes further than before and sets clear goals for the business, and individuals, to work towards to create a more sustainable future. The framework has been developed to also support clients in achieving their own ESG goals.
To ensure the long-term success of the plan, Bennett Hay approached developing their strategy in a different way. They worked with stakeholders from across the business and beyond, speaking with clients, suppliers, consultants, and team members, to understand what their business, and personal, sustainability goals were.
Using this research as the foundation, Growing for Good was then developed inline with the UN Sustainable Development Goal framework and SBTI.
Their stakeholder research identified four key principles that mattered the most:
- We love people, and are proud to be Human Kind
- We champion good food, and have an army of Food Heroes
- We hate waste, and challenge everyone to be Waste Warriors
- We care about the planet, and aspire to be Planet Positive in everything we do
These four key principles form the backbone of the Growing for Good strategy and wider roll out plan. In addition the business has identified almost 40 ‘Growing for Good’ champions who will become ambassadors for the principle they feel most passionate about.
Zoe Watts, Managing Director commented
‘We’ve always been commended for our initiatives to minimise our impact on the environment, but we knew we needed to formalise, measure and plan better to future proof our business whilst reducing our carbon footprint.
By working with our stakeholders to understand what matters most to them, we’ve developed a robust plan that has the buy-in of everyone across our business. Already we’re seeing an impact at our sites and clients are asking us for input into their ESG plans.’
